I want to learn to ride a horse
What age should I be? Learning to ride a horse requires a combination of physical strength, mental and emotional maturity.
Even a child of six (suggested starting age) can handle a horse is he or she is healthy and is willing to listen to instruction.
Australian horse riding centres recommend a minimum age of 6.
We suggest that at an earlier age they should be led around on a pony or small horse.
How big do I have to be? Your weight, and strength will determine if you are the right size for the horse. Some people are too large (height or weight) for the size of horse.and this can cause problems, you could injure yourself or create spinal problems for the horse.
However if you are too small your legs will not be strong enough to clear the saddle, kick, squeeze or move the horse. It is important that the rider has balance. Also your arms need to be stong enough too have sufficient strength to slow, stop, steer the horse.
How many lessons does it take? To learn correctly we assess your ability. Some students take longer to get comfortable with the procedures than others. We suggest you attend lessons on a weekly basis. This will condition your muscles. It is necessary to enjoy your horse riding safely not be sore and sorry. What should I wear? We will not allow you to ride if you do not have closed in shoes (boots) and long pants.
